3 Day Fruit Flush Diet

I've been traveling a lot this summer eating all kinds of foods that aren't necessarily good for me. I've decided I want to do a cleanse to rid my body of the toxic food I consumed and to jump start my metabolism, getting my nutrition back on track.

Cleanses often have unrealistic expectations, leaving you to ditch it at the end-of-the-day and chow down on some BBQ, but I don't want that to happen. I discovered Jay Robb's 3 Day Fruit-Flush Diet, which seems realistic and somewhat enjoyable (if you like fruit and veggies, that is!).

I want to preface this post with a note that I'm not trying to loose weight on this cleanse. Jay Robb's site advertises loosing 9 pounds, but your overall goal shouldn't be to lose massive amounts of weight in a short period of time. Cleanses should be advertised as a jump start to a new healthy lifestyle, if anything.

Although this cleanse is only 3 days, Robb says you can do it 3 days each week for up to 12 weeks. For now, I am only going to try this cleanse once to see how I like it and what sort of financial commitment it would be on a weekly basis.

Day 1

The first day of the detox is the pre-flush period. You will combine 1 1/4 cup of whey protein powder with 1 quart of water and consume 6 ounces of the mixture every two hours, from 8 am to 4 pm.

You are also instructed to drink between 8 and 12 ounces of water an hour after drinking the protein mixture.

At 6 pm, you are supposed to eat 3 to 6 ounces of lean meat with 3 to 6 cups of raw vegetable salad. The dressing options for your salad include: 2 ounces of olive oil, flax seed oil or half of an avocado with lemon juice.

Day 2 & 3

On day two and day three, you'll start the flush phase of the cleanse. The goal of these days is to consume one serving of fruit every two hours, from 8 am to 4 pm.

Similar to day one, you will also drink 8 to 12 ounces of water an hour after consuming your serving of fruit.

At 6 pm, you are supposed to combine 5 tablespoons of protein powder with 12 ounces of water and drink it while eating a raw vegetable salad plus one to two tablespoons of olive oil, flaxseed oil or half of an avocado plus lemon juice.

You will again drink another 8 to 12 ounces of water 1 hour after your vegetable salad.

The following are one serving of fruit: two medium applies, six apricots, one banana, 1 1/2 cups of berries, 2 cups cantaloupe or other melon, 1 cup grapes, one mango, two oranges, two nectarines, three peaches, one pear, 1 cup pineapple, three plums or four tomatoes.

3 Fat Chicks is another blog which lists more fruit serving options. The nice part about this cleanse is the option to choose which fruits you want to eat based on your personal preferences.

Happy Cleansing!
