Pack Like a Pro! Travel Tips for the Beauty + Fashion Obsessed.

Getting through the airport unscathed can be tricky. It's 6 a.m. and you're already feeling rough. Starbucks wasn't open when you left your apartment to catch a cab, and now you have to take off half your outfit, unpack your electronics, and cram your beauty essentials into a tiny, clear bag. Ugh, so not glamorous. At least once you get through security, there's coffee and SkyMall calling your name.

For carry-on beauty must-haves, get a clear zippered pouch to avoid security line drama. One Truffle makes amazing travel bags that fit TSA-guidelines, which means less work, and no plebeian Ziplock baggies, for you.

Here's what I'd throw in mine!

Heard of the 3-1-1 rule? I suggest following it unless you want your $60 foundation and La Mer eye cream unceremoniously tossed out amongst half-chugged Gatorades.

Liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes must be 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less per container; must be in 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. The bag limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. - TSA

Every beauty pick is less than 3.4 ounces, so you don't have to stress!

1. Emi-Jay Pearl Hair-Ties. Get your hair out of your face without pulling it out.
2. Shiseido 'Pureness' Refreshing Cleansing Sheets. I like to travel totally makeup-free, but if you can't bear to enter the airport without your war paint, at least take it off once you board!
3. Fresh 'Sugar' Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment. The airplane air will dry your skin out. Keep your lips moisturized!
4. Clinique Moisture Surge. Once you're barefaced, slap some moisturizer on to combat dull, dry skin.
5. Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara. If you need a little touch-up after your journey, keep it simple with a few coats of mascara.
6. One Truffle Small 'Clarity' Clutch in Blush. The perfect carry-on beauty bag.
7. YSL Touche Eclat. Again, for apres-plane touch-ups!
8. Clinique 'All About Eyes' De-Puffing Eye Massage. If your travel day has left you bleary and baggy-eyed, this ought to do the trick!
9. Evian Facial Water Spray. A nice refreshing mist to re-moisturize your face!

I avoid checking my bag whenever humanly possible, but if your trip is more dinner dates than dog parks, a quart-sized bag may not cut it. If you've gotta have your lotions and potions, make sure to get a sturdy makeup bag, so your shampoo doesn't explode all over your lingerie. Not a pretty sight!

More Carry-On Essentials

Make sure you pack these must-haves to maintain your sanity! You'll definitely want these seemingly superfluous items a fingertip away.

Bonus tip: Remember how I said it's best not to wear a ton of jewelry? You should still keep it close by! I have lost too many bags to trust that my Yurman will make it round-trip. Invest in some travel pouches, and tuck them into that handy, zippered part of your purse.

1. Vogue September Issue. You're inevitably going to get bored. I'm always happier when I've packed my own reading materials than when I have to rely on in-flight magazines and my rusty iPod to entertain me. Bring a book, magazine, or even some crosswords.
2. Free People Lace Trim Trapeze Slip Dress. You'll want a lightweight, versatile change of clothes...just in case the unthinkable happens. I once spent 5 days in London in dirty yoga pants and not a stitch of makeup. Learn from my mistakes!
3. Kate Spade New York Leather Pouch. Some pouches to organize and separate your jewelry.
4. DryBar Lemondrop Detangler Brush. There's nothing worse than limp, disheveled plane hair.
5. EPIC Bison Bar. You'll need a healthy, yummy snack if you're traveling for several hours. Don't give in to gross plane food! These Epic Bars are my new favorite! The ingredient list is short and they pack in quite a bit of protein.
6. Water. Make sure you stay hydrated on the plane. The recycled air can really wreck havoc on your body.
7. Tom's of Maine Deodorant. I always like to freshen up a bit in the restroom before I hit up baggage claim. This is my ultimate favorite as far as deo goes. Smells super fresh and no icky aluminum!
