Tips for Happy Healthy Hair

During these hot summer months everyone heads to the beach, lake and pool for some fun in the sun and relief from the heat. Unfortunately for our hair, the chlorine/salt water and prolonged sun exposure can be very drying and damaging to our luscious locks.

Check out some tips to keep your hair hydrated, silky and shiny!

Put down the heated devices!

AKA your hair dryers, curling irons, and straighteners. Your hair is already exposed to more heat than usual over these hot summer months, so try and refrain from using heated devices when you don't need/have to. Let your hair air dry every once and awhile; you can always use a sea salt spray, like Drybar's Mai Tai spritzer, for some texture.

Don't wash your hair every day.

I used to wash my hair every single day, sometimes twice a day, but doing this causes your scalp to be stripped of its natural oils and results in dry, unhealthy locks. I normally only wash my hair 2 to 3 times a week and use a shower cap when washing my body. Dry shampoo will be your new best friend on the days you don't wash your hair and there are tons of options to choose from. Whatever line your currently using probably carries a dry shampoo among their products, but my current favorite is Lush's No Drought Dry Shampoo. I personally like the powdered dry shampoos better because my blonde hair looks dirtier faster than my brunette pals, and the powder removes the oil instantly.

Treat once a week!

Whether it's a DIY treatment you find on pinterest, or a nourishing mask from Sephora, you hair needs a little TLC once and awhile. Some great home remedy ingredients include olive oil, coconut oil, egg yolk, honey and etc. I personally love Drybar's Mudslide Nourishing Hair Mask.  Once a week I apply this mask when I'm in the shower and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes. Afterwards, my hair feels nourished, soft and brushes out with ease.

For my fellow blondes.

Another great treatment I like to use to not only nourish my hair, but to brighten and remove brassiness, is Lush's Marilyn Hair Treatment.  When I feel like my hair color and texture could use a refreshment I apply this mask. For a full brightening effect, I typically apply the mask and let it sit in my hair for a few hours, or even overnight.
